The Washington County, Oregon, Family History Society has changed their name to the Genealogical Society of Washington County Oregon (GSWCO) and is a group founded to help people do their own research and preservation of their family heritage.

From a core of 13 charter members in 1992, the group now has more than 60 members.   We meet on a monthly basis, with an emphasis on educational and self help programs.   Small enough to do one on one assistance, we endeavor to do six programs each year to help our members expand their research skills, and preserve the information that they have gathered.   There are professional as well as several experienced genealogists among the membership who have generously given of their expertise to these programs.

The Society sponsors a Pioneer Certificate Program.   The requirements include direct lineage from a person or family that arrived and settled in  Washington County before statehood,  February 14, 1859. A publication, The  GeneaLog is printed quarterly.

Projects include the preservation and printing of Vital Records of the County;  however the general interest of most of the members is learning  how to do their own genealogy.

The Society has a small library, including some rare volumes on Quaker families, contributed by some of the founding members.

The meetings are currently held on the second Thursday each month.   There are two social meetings, a picnic in the summer, and a Christmas social in  December.

Meetings are open to the public, and we also welcome membership to any  person interested in the history of Washington County, Oregon, where ever they reside.
